  1. I'm not finished with the book yet, but it is a good one. I wonder how humanity can go so wrong sometimes, how cruelty can just become part of the norm. Slavery still exists today in human trafficking. We are no better off than a society then back during the time of slavery. We sit around being complacent telling ourselves someone else will take care of the problem. This book makes you think... What would I have done if I lived in a time of buying and selling people. It makes me think of all the women who are still oppressed even today. This is why we need God so much. We would get bogged down with societies burdens. I'm not saying just sit by and let it happen, but to really pray about what talents, time, or money you have to help. You have them. We all deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. We live in a time of me. Sometimes I think it's a response of survival. It's easier to build walls around us so we won't be hurt. But we need to tear them down. Bad things are happening to good people. God loves us all. He chose me to live NOW. We don't want to feel the pain of others. We isolate ourselves. We buy things. We don't care. Slavery still happens.

  2. This was a great book about courage and strength. I wonder what we do in our society today to hold people back from their freedoms? Some would say it is still a society that oppresses blacks and women. Most often we see black people being portrayed in the news for crimes even though more white people commit them. Women are still not getting equal pay for the same work done by men. I think we are slowly getting there, but it still exists. What do you think?
